Matt 5:13-16

Let’s look at our purpose…

Heavenly Purpose Commissioned by our Heavenly Father

Matthew 5:13-16

1. We are called to be mirrors to reflect His Glory!

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” II Cor. 3:18

Why would Jesus use the example of Salt to describe us?

1. Because it is valuable.

2. Because it is influential.

3. Because you are vulnerable.

“But if the salt loses it saltiness, how can it be made salty again?”  v. 13

Let’s get back to our Heavenly Purpose-----

2. We are to be the beacon of light in this dark world!

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12

3. We need to tell our story with clarity!

• The old song declares:  “Go tell it on the mountains, over the hills and everywhere”

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” 

Mark 16:15

“In everything set them an example by doing what is good.  In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.” 

Titus 2:7,8

Conclusion:

“You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world.”  Matthew 5:13a, 14a
