GOD MY COMFORTER

TEXT: 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

INTRODUCTION

· One of the names for the Holy Spirit in the Bible is the Comforter.

· And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever   John 14:16 (KJV)

1) GOD IS THE SOURCE OF ALL COMFORT

· The word means “a calling to one’s side” with the implication of providing help or aid to the person being called aside.

2) SUFFERING IS THE SOURCE OF CHRIST’S COMFORT

· The discovery of the breadth of God’s comfort comes from the Christ  moments in our lives when we are called to go through something for and with God.

· “the meaning of earthly existence lies not, as we have grown used to thinking, in prospering but in the development of the soul.”   Alexander Solzhenitsyn

3) WE ARE THE SOURCE OF GOD’S COMFORT

· May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.   1Thessalonians 3:12 (NIV)
