RAHAB – MAKING GOOD CHOICES

TEXT: Heb. 11:31

INTRODUCTION

·       Tim Sanders says we should view all of our choices through the lens of  three categories (Tim Sanders, www.sanderssays.typepad.com (8-25-06)):

a.      Rubber

b.     Metal

c.      Glass

GOOD SPIRITUAL CHOICES TAKE:

1)     COURAGEOUS LOYALTY

·       Do you consider yourself fiercely loyal to God?   Yes      No  (circle one)

2)     CAREFUL CONVERSATIONS

·       You will have to live with the consequences of everything you say.  What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.   Prov 18:20 (TEV)

·       The three distinct conversations of Rahab:

a.      The King (pressure)

b.     The People (gossip)

c.      The Spies (community)

3)     COVENANT CONSCIOUSNESS

·       The scarlet cord mentioned in this passage is symbolic of a scarlet thread that runs through the whole of the Bible:

a.      The original sacrifice (Gen. 3:21)

b.     The pre-law sacrifices (Gen. 8:20, 22:13)

c.      The sacrifices of the Law (Lev. 1:1-17)

d.     The sacrifice of Christ (Rev. 12:11)

CONCLUSION

·       Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.    II Jn 1:8 (NIV)
